Some of our Members share their thoughts and feelings
about living and working here at Workspace.
“In traditional schools, we do our middle schoolers a disservice by asking them to be 100% academic and abstract. Through project-based learning at Workspace, this age group has the ability to set their own trajectory for learning. Students assume the responsibility of taking an idea from concept to completion. That orientation creates pride and a true feeling of success that transfers to future work.
For the high school years, Workspace offers that crucial peer experience in a safe environment. Our teens have the ability to spread their wings socially while still continuing to do what they want to do, and learn the way they want to learn.”

“At Workspace, creativity is nurtured. Every day, children are encouraged to look around at the world, identify needs for innovation, and apply their creative thinking to problem solving. We are fostering an exciting path to highly-creative adults who have the potential to be wonderful contributors to society.
Respect and tenderness for children manifests through a culture of listening. Who is this human being? Through the mapping of goals, interests, and passions in the 21CI framework, I am learning how to help my child become successful, strong, happy, and self-aware.”

“In a traditional school, there is no room for pursuing passions when you are encapsulated inside core skills eight hours-a-day. At Workspace, I get on-the-ground experience in many different areas and can figure out what I like—what will make me happy.
Music production and music mastering have become very important to me. Watching someone do it and then doing it myself has given me more valuable professional skills than I ever would have developed learning theory alone. Workspace prepares us for the real world!”

“Workspace has truly helped my children become more in tune with their passions, interests, skills—even their personal values. This stems from the flexibility and options available here. No imposed curriculum, no structured environment. With the ultimate in educational freedom, our children have become more of their authentic selves.
Also, for me, personally, the collaboration with other families is key. I have learned so much from other members here. Everyone is willing to share in their educational journey.”

Children at Workspace: Two, ages 13 and 15
“I originally came to Workspace because of the resources. It is an educational sandbox that I never could have recreated on my own—research lab, theater, makery, recording studio. What I didn’t anticipate when I joined were the benefits of the peer group and the empowering environment.
This is an accepting and loving community. Children walk around with their heads held high. They are afforded a say in what they are doing, able to ask for things from the real world, and take ownership of the learning spaces. And, every parent who comes here is committed to their own children, and that translates into a commitment to helping all the children at Workspace.”
